It’s not very often I get the time to enjoy a Saturday lunch on my own so when the opportunity arose last weekend, I found my way to Pier Street Kitchen in Dromana.
Perfectly positioned on the Mornington Peninsula, Dromana is an easy 20 minute drive from Mount Eliza, Balnarring or Blairgowrie, making Pier Street Kitchen a great meeting point for catching up with friends with plenty of convenient parking across the road. Nestled beside Scout’s Honour Shop, one of our favourite lifestyle stores and is, as the name suggests, just a short stroll from the Dromana Pier and the beach. I loved the eclectic, industrial decor with concrete floors and timber counter. I enjoyed the summer breeze at a cosy bench seat by the open windows to sip some wine + sample the delicious food.
With a Mediterranean inspired menu, Pier Street Kitchen is renowned for their amazing shakshouka and house made dips and pita. While I was tempted to experience the food they are famous for, I perused the lunch menu for my solo Saturday meal. I love ordering fish when I’m out and their smoked salmon dish with cucumber, baby beets and pomegranate dressing sounded divine, but I opted for something a bit more substantial.
The middle eastern friend chicken burger was a monster with shredded lettuce, harissa, gruyère cheese, picked veg (yum!) and an avocado and horseradish cream served with crispy, chunky chips. I know, you’re full just reading this but honestly the flavour packed seasoning on the juicy chicken thigh fillet has to be eaten to be believed. I’m a big fan of middle eastern spices so the fennel seeds and cumin gave this burger the punch of flavour I was hoping for.
Enticingly displayed on the wall of the cafe, Pier Street Kitchen boasts a large selection of wines, many from local wineries and are available to take home if you love what you’ve had with your meal. I chose a glass of the house Pinot Gris to enjoy with my lunch, which they source from a local wine maker in Mount Eliza.
