Holy hot sauce Batman! What a time we had at Red Gum BBQ at Red Hill yesterday.
We had booked for an early dinner with friends and kids in tow…and our appetites too, thankfully.
We were welcomed into Red Gum BBQ’s rustic warehouse space by the lovely Melissa and a rollicking band. While the toe tapping tunes filled the indoor space, I saw this as a bonus for those of us with rowdy and excitable kids. I also must say there were a few old rockers loving the vibes and shaking a shoe on the dance floor throughout the day. But most importantly…the food.
For four adults and five kids we decided to order most of the delicious offerings from the menu to share. The kids had the half roast chicken and the mac + cheese and fries which were definitely the favourites and devoured in minutes!
The adults started with corn chips and amazing bean salsa before enjoying the half chicken too, which was super juicy. The brisket and ribs were perfect, paired with some of Red Gum’s own BBQ sauce. My husband was in meat lovers’ heaven! The surprise delights though were the sides of coleslaw and broccoli salad, which even impressed the carnivores of the group. Oh and just because we hadn’t eaten enough, we got the brownie with ice cream and the key lime pie to share amongst us all. I guess the fact my kids were licking their plates means they were impressed…and will never be taken out in public again.
A perfect Sunday session spot to sip beer and cider from mason jars while the kids were thoroughly entertained with a play area, colouring-in sheets and the live music. Red Gum BBQ is good for the soul and a treat for all ages. We shall return, with empty tummies and our dancing shoes on.
